About Athlete
My name is Charlie Holmwood. I am 18 years old and I live in a village called Crowborough in East Sussex , England. I currently play soccer as a goalkeeper for Hastings United U18s, U23s and am also actively involved with the senior squad, who won their league last season and earned promotion to the Isthmian premier league.
Alongside playing football with Hastings United, I’m currently Studying for a BTEC in level 3 sport studies of which I have passed the first year. I play for the college team as well. I also have my own personal goalkeeping coach. I will be working with him over the summer to help provide goalkeeper coaching to younger children of which I’m really excited to do.
My hobbies outside of football are running and using the gym. I also enjoy spending time with my friends.
I am hardworking, enthusiastic and highly motivated to achieve success within football and my education. My dream has always been to experience football in America whilst achieving an excellent education in studying business. Having seen the progression I have made within football over the last few years, and being focused on my gym work and running as well, I believe having an education in America alongside the exceptional facilities that will be provided, will only inspire me to become the best version of myself.

What makes you different?
As a young child I played a high standard of soccer. I obtained a trial with an English Premier League club but was unsuccessful due to my athletic ability. I also had a shy character.
Since being old enough to join a gym, I have worked so hard on becoming stronger. I have also gained a lot of athleticism by having training sessions with a running coach who taught me how to run more efficiently and how to gain explosive power. I have become so focused and determined to invest time and care into maintaining my body that I have now become one of the fittest members of the Hastings team
From the age of 15, I travelled with the first team to their matches and provided the warm up for their goalkeeper so I could overcome my shyness. This helped tremendously being around confident senior players that I am now not phased by any situation and have complete confidence in my own ability.
Why do you want to compete in college?
I believe that competing in a strong college team will make me very committed. I have a strong desire to win and will want to be selected for as many games as possible. To push myself against like minded athletes will only improve my ability .
I will also have to learn to have excellent time management to be able to complete college work and combine this with training to the best of my ability. I need to be physically and mentally prepared if I am selected to play. I will have to learn to adapt to a college way of life which will teach me great life lessons for the future. I hope that great relationships that will last a lifetime will be built with people from the college.
Competing for college will make me become bigger faster stronger and more skilled as the competition will be stronger. This will inspire me to watch, learn adapt and challenge myself
College Goals?
My college goals are to set a path towards the future.
I want to become the best goalkeeper that I can be and achieve the best grades possible.
As I will be away from England and my family, I want to experience complete independence and feel that I have gained life experience whilst achieving good grades. I want to push myself to be the best soccer player I can be whilst learning about business.
Anything else we should know?
My biggest strengths are my distribution like playing out from the back as a goalkeeper with my feet. For example breaking line by threading balls into the midfield or switching play to full backs or even going longer. I am also a good shot stopper and have good communication skills when playing to help organise the defence.
