About Athlete

I am in a family of five. I have one older sister and one younger brother me being the middle child. I am going to be graduating high school at the age of 17 in an international school doing the International Baccalaureate. I have participated in sports and have been very active since I could walk and found my passion of swimming when I moved to Germany in 2009.

GPA

Following NCAA guidelines Lara’s GPA would meet U.S. requirements.

Championships

- MVP (most Valued Player) on my high school swim team

- Participated in the German Long Course Youth Nationals (Deutsche Jahrgangs Meisterschaften) 4 times and in the German Short Course Championships 3 times

- Year 2018 at the German Championships I finished in my age group: 15th in 50 backstroke, 10th in 100 backstroke, 11th in 200 backstroke.

What makes you different?

Some people would consider me as being "shy and introvert". But as often first impressions can be wrong. In deed, at school or at training, I am usually not the first one to make a move or to be bubbly. But I love caring for my friends at school or in the swim team. Irrespective of how I feel or if I am concerned with other issues, I am supporting my friends and the team. Especially the newcomers to the team are close to my heart to motivate and mobilize them. But when in tough sessions in training it is my way to stay focused. Focussing on myself helps me to forget the "boring 50 times 100” drills or overcoming pain.

But I am getting bubbly when I get what I trained for. I am very ambitious. I have a great desire to succeed and when I don’t do to well I will try even harder the next time by putting all my energy into practice. But when I succeed - I celebrate with my friends and team. Overall I have a high perseverance which makes training hard but also a little bit easier, and I can push myself though pain during training, but I still always know my limits

Why do you want to compete in college?

I want to compete in college because swimming is my passion. Competing is part of my swimming experience and I want it to also be part of my new experience in studying abroad and learning new experiences outside my familiar environment in Germany. Competing in a strong College Team is also a great way for me to make quickly new friends my new environment. In the end educational and sportive challenges can be overcome quickly and effective when being part of a strong team.

In this way, I can combine my passion for swimming, making new friends abroad, learning a new culture and pursuing an academic education in one go.

College Goals?

My college goals are to have fun and to learn. I want to find a class which interests me, I am thinking of maybe studying education, or business management. What I am very interested in is something which has to do with the interaction of people. I want to participate in classes in which i am passionate about as an example maybe something which would be related to sports. I want to have a collage experience to remember and to leave with knowledge which can create a successful future for me.

Anything else we should know?

My sport and life goals are that i want to experience something new to what I am used to doing sports and my life in general in Germany. For sports I would love to with new training abilities finish top 10 at the german nationals whilst contributing to others to develop - be it in business or in education. (here I still need to find my destiny…)
