About Athlete

I believe that talent isn’t enough to reach the top in any field. Hard work and mental fortitude are the key elements that characterize the best. When I get involved in something I give it my 100% and sometimes more. I love sports, being a part of the team and having fun. Running is my latest love. Since my early years I have been actively pursuing a few others like: tennis, acrobatics, skiing and dancing on a similar level as running and few others like: cross-fit, swimming.

Sport isn’t my only interest, I’m an excellent student putting the same mindset to studying as to sport.

I’m a member of the U18 National Athletic Team. I have reached that level only after 1,5 years of running competitively.

I search for positives even when I’m down. I’d like to be able to continue developing as an athlete in the atmosphere of team effort where there is still space for academic development. I believe I can find these three ingredients (development as an athlete, teamwork and academics), being part of a University Athletic Team.

GPA

Maia's GPA would meet NCAA requirements.

I have won public speaking contests and have given TEDx presentation about Mental fortitude in high performance sports - https://youtu.be/WEf8mxGtqbE

I played tennis for 7 years before I started track&field. Additionally, to tennis I tried and played a lot of different sports. I danced competitively for 2 years (hip hop), our formation was 3rd in Poland. While dancing, I also did acrobatics and gymnastics for 6 years. I had a lot of general development training, such as CrossFit, gym. From when I was 3 years old, I was skiing. I swim ones or twice a week. When I was 4 years old, I played soccer.

I think that trying those sports made me a more rounded athlete. I went through quite some experiences and that taught me a lot. I was and still am open to trying new sports.

What makes you different?

I apply both logic and emotional aspects in equal proportion. For instance, I know that to improve my sport results I must put time and effort into it. But when the competition comes, I know that my preparations are finished and now my biggest ally and/or an enemy is my psyche. I know it will hurt and I know I need to push past that. I need to believe that I can win, that my emotions are positive.
I really like learning new things and am constantly seeking out new opportunities for expanding my knowledge and abilities. I love a challenge, and as a self-motivated learner, I really enjoy going above and beyond when it comes to tackling new tasks and learning new skills.
My natural ability to organize effectively makes me unique. I'm exceptionally organized at both learning and training. I have a limited amount of time to excel in both, so I need to use my time wisely. As my ambitions are high, I know that to accomplish exceptional results I need to be well organized.
I have a natural ability to easily empathize with and relate to people. This allows me to be a valued member of the team. I really thrive in a team environment. I enjoy discovering each of my teammates skills and strengths.
I try to find positives even when I’m down or things aren’t going well. I smile everyday hoping to make other people’s days as good as mine. I feel best as a part of a team. My teammates (friends) motivate me to keep pushing harder, and I value having good connections with the people you are on the team with and the people you surround yourself with. That’s why I like to meet up with my friend often besides from our practices.

Why do you want to compete in college?

I’m looking for the ability to combine my passion for running with a great university. I was always impressed with the approach toward sport in the US.

College Goals?

In college experience I’m looking for:
High academic ranking
Great athletic program
Good coach

I want to achieve:
Best possible education that will allow me to be successful in the future professional life.
See how far I can get in the running competition. Find my limit.
Prove to myself that I can succeed in a new environment, far away from my home, protection and safety net that it offers.
Enjoy myself in the friendly campus environment.
