About Athlete

Dear Coach,

My name is Trian Kalaitztis.

I have lived a very diverse life. I was born in South Africa, but grew up in Blantyre, Malawi and I am a Greek national. I was first introduced to golf at 4 years old by my grandfather. However in the years that followed I pursued various other sports successfully. I played football, field hockey, tennis, rugby and did athletics and long distance running, but predominantly I was a competitive swimmer both for my school and club. I have won many medals I can proudly wear around my neck. My family moved to Mauritius in 2019, and in 2020 I decided to pick up those golf clubs again and decided that golf is my passion and destiny.

Even with the lockdowns, restrictions and limited training, due to Covid, I managed to do whatever I could to become a better golfer. It is my dream and my ultimate passion to play golf professionally. This dream has further become possible since starting my first year at the Jason Floyd Golf Academy. With all the coaches, facilities and golf courses now available to me, I believe I can only grow from strength to strength. I may not have the tournament experience and longevity that other golfers my age have but in the short time I have focused on the game, I have made measurable improvements. Imagine what I can do in the next four years?

I pride myself in being a good student. I am disciplined and I always give my best. I study hard and I am always open and ready to learn new things, including learning from my mistakes or shortcomings. My focus is to be a better version of me every day. I may not always get it right but I will always ask how I can do better next time. Education is key to me and as dedicated as I am to my golf, I am to my studies.

My family is a very important part of my successes and I have deep family values. I value the different cultures and traditions of all of my “homes” and as I live between Greece, Malawi, South Africa, Mauritius and now Spain. Each of these places I call home have contributed to my life in so many different ways. I have diverse friendships all over the world and I love that. Living in these countries has also given me the chance to have a variety of hobbies such as kayak fishing, deep sea fishing and gourmet cooking.

What makes you different?

As the quote by Eric Thomas goes - "When you find your why, you find a way to make it happen." I am determined and self driven because I found my "why" in life. My why is not only to achieve success as a golfer but also success in life. I am not driven by motivation alone but by my own self discipline, as motivation can be temporary but discipline is forever.
It is only by my discipline that I will succeed.

Why do you want to compete in college?

US college golf is the best way for me to achieve my dream of becoming a professional golfer. Not only will competing on a college level open many doors for me into the professional level of golf but it is an achievement and personal goal I have set for myself. I believe with my standards, passion and ethics I can be a great competitor while also pursuing my academic and business aspirations.

College Goals?

I would like to maintain a balance between my golf aspirations of becoming a pro golfer and achieving an exceptional education that can carry me into my future. I also look forward to being exposed to different cultures, mindsets, and people.
