Zubair Firdaus
FeaturedAbout Athlete
I am highly motivated to attend a Division 1 school and excel in my academics and my golf. I have competed in multiple events at an elite level, such as representing my country and playing professional events as an amateur. This experience along with my work ethic has reflected consistently in my results and I truly believe these attributes will have a positive impact on the college team I attend. I love the competition and challenges that come along with it, this is important to me because my ultimate goal is to be a world-class competitor on the PGA Tour.

What makes you different?
There are several aspects that make me unique. I am already naturally different because of my background and the places I have studied/played golf. I was originally born in Malaysia, but I moved to Dubai when I was only 6 years old. In 2016, I won a tournament to which I got a scholarship to attend Hills International College, Australia. Despite being away from family and living in 3 completely different parts of the world I still have managed to advance in my academics and golf performance. I understand that adaptation is really crucial when attending college because it is far away from home/family, the environment is different and you have to be able to balance workload.
For the past 11 years of my life, I have lived away from my family, travelled the world to play golf events while simultaneously balancing my studies. I believe my adapting ability is what makes me unique and this is a trait you can only obtain from experience.
Why do you want to compete in college?
I have always loved competition and extending myself as a student, an athlete and most importantly as a person. I am confident that my college years will not only develop my golf and studies but also teach a massive learning curve. I enjoy being in a team and the process of winning together. I have had multiple experiences playing for my soccer and golf team, which I have captained to win state and district championships. I would consider myself as an extremely competitive person and I enjoy the challenge of an elite field. I also recognize that in long-term, competition makes you stronger. Hence, why I want to compete in a Division 1 college, I believe there is no better place to showcase my talents and work than Division 1 US colleges.
College Goals?
During my time in college, I would like to major in a topic that is sports-related (along the lines of sport’s science or management). Moreover, I have volunteered many times to help out school events and fairs, I wish to continue this in college and I would also like to be involved in community and service activities: such as charity raises, festivals and sporting games.
I am very familiar with interacting with people from all over the world, therefore I would love to meet more new people and make new friends in college.
Sporting-wise, I am aiming to be a starter player competing in intercollegiate and national events. I also recognize that team chemistry is tremendously important for the team’s success, therefore one of my goals is to build a great relationship between the coaches and the players. Furthermore, I believe that a team with great chemistry and unparallel work ethic will always win the National Championships. Thus, my ultimate goal is to win the national championship as a team and I am striving be one of the top college players in US.
Anything else we should know?
I enjoy music a lot and often play the guitar and piano.
When I’m not playing golf, I am: studying, going to the gym, playing soccer, basketball, ping pong, swimming, playing PS4 and/or just relaxing with friends if family is not around.
